kinnod

Coming soon to iPhone

Your chats.Nobody else’s.

An end-to-end encrypted messenger for the people you actually know.

One email when Kinnod is out. Then we delete your address. How we handle it

Kinnod’s chat list: message requests, chats with disappearing-message timers, connected via Tor.

No phone number

Disappears 5 min after it’s read

End-to-end encrypted

Timers

Messages that disappear after they’re read

Set a timer for each chat, from 30 seconds to a week. Messages delete themselves once they’re read, and the other person sees when you change the timer.

Contacts

No public directory

Nobody can look you up by phone number, because there isn’t one. Add people you know by QR code, invite link or username, and scan a code in person to verify each other’s keys.

Requests

Strangers wait at the door

Someone you haven’t added can only send a request. It stays hidden until you accept it, and you can report or block them right there.

Message requests from two people, each hidden until accepted, with Accept, Block and Report buttons.

Tor

Over Tor by default

Kinnod connects through the Tor network, so our server can’t see your IP address. If Tor stops responding, you decide whether to connect directly. Kinnod never switches on its own.

Built for small circles

  • Groups

    Groups by invitation

Family and friends in one chat, encrypted end to end. Nobody joins without an invite.

A group chat with four members and a one-day message timer.
  • Safety

Report or block from any chat

Every chat has Report and Block. Reports go to our moderators, and the person is blocked right away.

  • Sign-up

    No phone number, no email

Pick a username and a password. We never learn the password, so keep it somewhere safe.

What our server keeps

Short lists, because we built it to know as little as possible.

Keeps

  • Your username, and a sign-in record that doesn’t reveal your password
  • The public keys of your phone
  • Sealed messages until they’re delivered, 7 days at most
  • A notification token, so your phone can show “New message”

Never has

  • What your messages say
  • Who a message is from
  • Your IP address, when you connect over Tor
  • Your phone number or email address
  • Your address book

Every detail is in our privacy policy

When can I get Kinnod?

We’re finishing it now. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you once, on the day it’s out.

Which phones does it work on?

Kinnod comes to iPhone first. An Android version is planned.

Can Kinnod read my messages?

No. Messages are encrypted on your phone, and only the person you write to can open them. Our server passes on sealed envelopes it can’t open.

What is Tor, and why use it?

Tor is a network of volunteer-run relays. It passes your connection through several of them, so no single relay knows both who you are and where you’re connecting. Kinnod connects to its server this way, so the server never learns your IP address. The first connection can take a few seconds.

What if I forget my password?

We can’t reset it. We don’t know it, and there’s no phone number or email address to recover it with. Write it down somewhere safe.

Is it free?

Yes, Kinnod is free. We may add an optional paid plan later.

What happens to my email address?

We use it once, to tell you Kinnod is out, and then delete the whole list. If you don’t confirm it within 7 days, we delete it sooner. Every email from us has a link to remove it right away.
